From Renter to Homeowner: Teresa’s Journey
Teresa & Kevin
In 2024, I asked Teresa to move out…but not for the reasons you might expect.
Teresa wasn’t behind on rent. In fact, she had never missed a payment. She kept the house spotless, communicated clearly, and treated the property like her own. She was doing everything right. That’s exactly why I knew it was time for her to take the next step not as a tenant, but as a homeowner.
We first met a few years earlier when she came to view one of our rental homes. Teresa arrived with a big smile, a warm spirit, and a Chihuahua named Kevin. She was working two jobs, one in home healthcare and the other cutting hair. She made it clear that she was determined to make it work.
Her application mentioned she needed a place for “one to two years.” That one-to-two years turned into more. Over that time, Teresa proved herself in every way a landlord could ask for.
So in 2024, I made Teresa an offer: What if I helped her become a homeowner? She looked at me and asked, “You’d do that for me?” My answer was simple: “Yes, of course.” People have helped me throughout my journey and it only felt right to pay it forward.
Today, Teresa owns her own home. She no longer worries about rent increases or security deposits. She’s building equity, stability, and a future.
At Three Bulls, our mission is bigger than housing: it’s about community transformation.
