Biography

Brent is a seasoned real estate entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist with over two decades of experience spanning China, Hawaii, and the continental United States. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Brent has lived in China since 1997, where he began his career as a journalist for the state-run publication Shanghai Star. He soon transitioned into real estate, launching a visionary career dedicated to preserving and repurposing historic urban spaces.

In 2006, Brent founded Build, a Shanghai-based real estate development and management firm with a mission to restore and reposition legacy properties in the city’s iconic Jing’an District (静安区). As CEO of Build Shanghai, Space Property Agency, and Build Property Development, Brent has led transformative projects that have been featured in leading international architectural publications. His firms provide full-service development, leasing, and asset management, serving both property owners and tenants throughout Shanghai.

Brent’s investment portfolio extends across mainland China, Hawaii, and the mainland U.S., reflecting his global mindset and long-term commitment to urban revitalization.

In addition to his real estate work, Brent is the owner of DongXi (东西), a curated shop in Shanghai whose name translates to “Things.” The store reflects his deep appreciation for Chinese culture and design and showcases a collection of Chinese antiques and propaganda art, which he avidly collects.

Brent is also a dedicated philanthropist, serving on the boards of Rotary Shanghai, Eglobal Family Hawaii (supporting orphanages in Cambodia), and St. Francis Hospital Hawaii, where he contributes to hospice care initiatives. He supports numerous other charitable organizations through fundraising and strategic advisory roles.

A passionate supporter of the fine arts, Brent brings creativity, cultural fluency, and global perspective to everything he does. He is also an enthusiastic squash player and world traveler.
